(10:13 am PT) - Huzzah
[link] - (nerdy)
My external HD arrived. I'm in the process of moving everything in My Docs. Then all music and all anime files will follow.
I'm going to sleep a lot easier at night now.

(9:30 pm PT) - It's not manga, it's manila
[link] - (nerdy)
As found in an article DB, from something called the "Advocate".
Known as yaoi (pronounced "yah-oh-ee"), shonenai, and BL ("boys' love"), gay romance is one of the most popular genres in manila, or Japanese comic books.
.It's not manga anymore, it's manila.
Okay, if that's an actual term, let me know. But even if it is, it just sounds funny no matter how you look at it.

(11:49 am PT) - fake scorpios
[link] - (nerdy)
All you scorpios out there? You may actually
not be a scorpio like you think.
While doing some research for this GB fic I'm working on, I came across the constellation
Ophiuchius, the snake charmer. While it wasn't what I needed for the fic, I found on this page (
http://www.angelfire.com/ky/astronomers/Scorpius.html ) that the sun is only in Scorpius for 6 days. The rest of that time, it's in Ophiuchius, least by today's celestial paths.
I'd just like to know who has it in for 13. 13 lunar could fit evenly into a solar year, and there's 13 major constellations.
Why can't we use them?
Oh well, back to research. I've got a keen idea concerning lunar focused constellations, but I want to research it a bit more.

(9:47 am PT) - The Great Host Hunt: Tips and Tricks
[link] - (nerdy)
Raine asked, so figured why not. Posted some questions I've been asking webhosts, along with my opinion on things to do when searching for a host. But they're over at BT.
Questions and Tips for Webhost Hunting/Moving
Yes, Exovian was a disaster, but it would have been a lot worse if I'd canceled my old account without thinking.

(2:45 pm PT) - More from the tip section
[link] - (nerdy)
Remember what I said about tips? Well I'm sharing some more. Remember, if you come across any nuggets of info, post them in your journal. Share the info.
This time, two tips, two both totally random. The first is a nice little program you may or may not have heard of.
Spybot-S&D. This one is specifically targeted at spyware, so if you tend to dl a lot, like freeware and such, this might be handy. Also grabs tracking cookies as well. It's free/donationware, which works well for my wallet.
The second is a food tip, one I already shared with
Kit. Again, some of you may know it, but it's still a good one to pass on. During the summer, bread has a shorter shelf lifespan. One way to elongate it, as well as keep it fresh and soft, is to double wrap it. Now some bread is already sold like this, but tends to be more expensive. So if you get a single wrapped loaf, just take it out and wrap it in plastic wrap, or get one of those food baggies (not a ziplock), and put it in there. Stick it back in the original bag, and boom, double wrap.
S'all for now. Have to go help the brother-unit play
Siren. I did not know this game was already out... bad me.

(8:06 pm PT) - Saying life sucks would be an understatement
[link] - (nerdy)
Soooo, I missed
Mirchan on MSN, then I
couldn't log on AIM. And I was getting kicked repeatedly off my connection.
Someone trying to tell me something...
I accidently overachieved (for once in my life) while working on a PHP script. The problem: Random content updated for the user on a daily basis, versus either sequential content or updated with every page refresh. Solution: A cookie. Unfortunately, the last experience I had with setting cookies was, in short, a nightmare. But once again PHP proves to be my long lost lover, making it as simple as a single line of code. The overachievement comes in when I erroneously thought I couldn't use a cookie and still use a flatfile database. ::snips boring geekspeak:: So I switched to mySQL. After (finally) getting that monster to work, I realize the problem with the flatfile ::snips more boring geekspeak::. So, a quick rewrite and boom, two different versions. ::thunks head:: I hate missing obvious answers after pouring work into the harder method. But looking at it, I see where both methods can be useful. If one doesn't have mySQL, isn't familiar with it, or just has a small number of items, then the flatfile would work just fine, and it'd be easy to edit. On the flip, if one has mySQL and it's a large number of items, then there you are.
Geekspeak aside, the script seems to work. However, much as I would like to go live with the page, I actually ::gasp:: wrote to the company that printed/produced this tarotdeck and ask for permission to use the images.
If they don't get back to me by tomorrow, though, I'll just go ahead.
Now, I'm going to work on the layout for a side project, oh yes, work on KH thing, try not to think about .hack//SIGN and what's happening to Tsukasa, and some other crap that I know I should be focusing on but let this script eat my life for the past few days.
Just a question of deciding which one gets my attention first.
...maybe I'll go look at some more tarot decks instead...

(8:07 pm PT) - Skipping Sunday made up for all of Saturday...
[link] - (nerdy)
Tormalyne - Well, we could try and write, or just collect a fund and ship some hookers out to DC and see what happens.
Sorry again, I know I keep flaking out with talking to people. I can't even say I have a good reason other than just being tired past few days. That, and I've been working on a php script. I've got it working, but now I want to expand it. This in and of itself wouldn't be so bad, were it not for the fact that I
don't know my way around programming languages and I'm constantly having to refer back to the
manual and other various tutorials before I can get something to work.
I'm envious of those people who've been programming since they were eight and nie and other such young ages.
I should probably take a break, it may be what's makeing me tired
now. ::checks clock:: Around 9:30 pt, perhaps.
And crappers, I've neglected a side project. ::beats head in:: Why do I start so many things? It's too much. I need a secretary.
::goes back to script::

(8:57 am PT) - Just some replies.
[link] - (nerdy)
If I'm making more typos than usual, (which should not be confused wth an inability to spell, mind you), it's because I'm hitting a very bad emotional period where I don't honestly care.
Miracle - take all the time you need. Being sick does not make for a good time in front of the comp, even if you'd rather be there. Hope it passes soon for you.
Kit - If you could, please, that'd be great. If he does charge, I'll probably have to save up. /^^;
Raine - There
is a way you can create the second (or third, fourth...) weblog in another directory. Go here,
http://www.nucleuscms.org/documentation/tips.html#newblog
to learn more, it explains it better than I can. Though if the urls really bum you out, I'd suggest waiting until the stable release of 2.0 comes out. It has a nice feature called Fancy URLS, so instead of
someblog.com/blog/index.php?itemid=xxx,
it will instead look like
someblog.com/blog/index.php/item/xxx.
This will affect all urls, in truth, so the archive might look like
someblog.com/blog/archives/blogidx.
This makes it easier for search engines to index the site if you want, and makes it look all around nicer. However, some recoding of the links is in order. Also, I don't know if it requires use of the .htaccess file. It did in dev 1.99, not sure about 2.0 yet. You can read more about it at the support form
in this thread.
As far as the database goes, it's not impossible to get a second install onto the same database, just requires a bit of searching on your part. Take whatever version of Nucleus you want to install and stick all the files into a folder on your local, then, pointing to that folder only, do a search for "nucleus_" You'll probably get a crapload of files returned. Then go through those files and just replace "nucleus_" with "yourword_" and poof, done. (It sounds a little easier than what it might actually be. I went over those files very carefully myself, but I managed to get another install on just fine.)
If you're feeling adventurous, go ahead and try 2.0. Perhaps use themethod above and just make it a different install. Personally, I'm just waiting to make sure all teh docs are updated. I want to use it just for all the new plugins that are begging to be used. There's one plugin that adds extra form fields to the add item box, another for threaded comments, the list goes on. Woohaa...
