(8:00 am PT) - Bon Jovi: 8; Audience: -2
[link] - (pleased)
I went, I saw, they rocked. Too bad that audience was flat as hell. Geez, the J-Rock concert had a smaller audience and was 5 times better than last night. But nothing against the group, they were great. Sprink, didn't touch Jon, though he did walk out into the audience and I was about 6 feet away at one point, so I'm good with that much. /^^\
I need to look up that opening act. I never heard of them before since I don't keep up to date in the US music scene anymore, but they were pretty good. And the lead singer came out and did a duet with Jon on Blaze of Glory that I enjoyed.
Highlights: Richie singing I'll be there for you; Jon stopping Bad Medicine right in the middle and switching to Shout (60s version) to get the audience a bit more lively (it worked for a hot second); audience singing certain songs word for word and almost drowning out Jon; David Bryan's curly hair (don't ask me why, it just was).
Low points: outside of a few songs, was generally a flat flat flat audience. I felt sorry for the first act, the audience sat down through most of their set.
Alas and alack, I am tired and likely will be all day, but hopefully I'll recover to start work on these assignments. And I need to call the school to complain about this instructor. But I enjoyed the show, bought a scarf, (which I wound up being very grateful for when I was waiting on my ride after the concert), and am overall happy I went. My feet don't agree, but I tend to ignore them anyway.

(6:52 pm PT) - ker-slice
[link] - (pleased)
Got back from
Sweeney Todd with the mater. I am
ordered requested to go on record with her saying that the ending was too abrupt for her liking, leaving some points unresolved. In truth, I have to agree. Also, while it seemed the Todd character was one dimensional, at least compared to Depp's other characters, we both figured it was because of the character constraints themselves. Todd couldn't
be anything but what Depp portrayed him as. (I think in anyone else's hands, that would have been a really flat depiction, so IMO Depp did okay given that.)
Mom still gave it a 3.5 of 5 despite her problems with the ending. She was hoping for something more poignant. I reminded her it
is a Tim Burton, and neither of us had any knowledge of the play it was based on. I'll say 4 because I'm generally more forgiving, and much of the music was a highlight for me, especially Depp singing 'My Friends'... to his razors.
Low point (and no, I'm not being a gender-nazi), was the girl playing Todd's daughter, Johanna. Rather, the actress. If I'm reading what he said right, the daughter was supposed to only be around 15-16. (She was a babe when he was deported and he said he was gone 15 years. If I'm wrong, someone correct me.) The actress didn't look 15 to me. (The sailor that falls for her looks closer to 15 than she did.) Plus, her singing... sucked. Period.
On the flip, I really did like Mrs. Lovett, both the character and Bonham's singing. She turned out (to me) to be the more devious of the pair. I also feel sorry for her, yet at the same time, well, I'll just say karma and leave it at that.
I will say nothing of the primary antagonist save that I was happy with the consequences he received for his actions. To say more would likely spoil, which I'm trying (hoping) to avoid.
But
geez, it certainly earned it's R rating. The sound effects got to me the most. Ick. Though I still enjoyed it. ... just ick.

(8:31 am PT) - One of those rare quizzes that I really like...
[link] - (pleased)
Yoinked from
sharachan at LJ. I usually wait, save up all my quizzes, and unleash them for spamming in one honking load. But this one appealed to me too much, so I decided to dump it now.
You are a
PHOENIX in your soul and your wings make a statement. Huge and born of flame, they burn with light and power and rebirth. Ashes fall from your wingtips. You are an amazingly strong person. You survive, even flourish in adversity and hardship. A firm believer in the phrase, 'Whatever doesn't kill you only makes you stronger,' you rarely fear failure. You know that any mistake you make will teach you more about yourself and allow you to 'rise from the ashes' as a still greater being. Because of this, you rarely make the same mistake twice, and are not among the most forgiving people. You're extremely powerful and wise, and are capable of fierce pride, passion, and anger. Perhaps you're this way because you were forced to survive a rough childhood. Or maybe you just have a strong grasp on reality and know that life is tough and the world is cruel, and it takes strength and independence to survive it. And independence is your strongest point - you may care for others, and even depend on them...but when it comes right down to it, the only one you need is yourself. Thus you trust your own intuition, and rely on a mind almost as brilliant as the fire of your wings to guide you.You are eternal and because you have a strong sense of who and what you are, no one can control your heart or mind, or even really influence your thinking. A symbol of rebirth and renewal, you tend to be a very spiritual person with a serious mind - never acting immature and harboring a superior disgust of those who do. Likewise, humanity's stupidity and tendency to want others to solve their problems for them frustrates you endlessly. Though you can be stubborn, outspoken, and haughty, I admire you greatly.

(9:00 pm PT) - Almost time
[link] - (pleased)
I have every intention of blogging social... in thirty minutes. Reign the Conqueror is coming on.
Kit, I agree with everything you said. (I started watching it last week after seeing the promo a week earlier. Just the fact that it came from the creators of Aeon Flux did it for me.)
Ah, VCR started, will post later. Kit, I finally posted at Notus, just so you know.

(6:39 am PT) - Wolf's Rain 4
[link] - (pleased)
Okay,
now Wolf's Rain is starting to get interesting. I like ep 4, it just takes 1-3 to get there, at least for it to make sense, anyway.
However, even though I
know most yaoi/shounen ai fans are probably going to jump on the Tsume/Toboe angle, I have to say I distinctly
don't like Tsume, and not just because of his design. (Actually, the only beef I have there is the hair, otherwise he's okay.) His attitude just sucks. Don't care if he has a good reason. It's probably the same
Kit felt for Aya in WK (pre Gluhen).
Toboe is so naive you don't know if you want to smack him or hug him.
Hige is... Hige. But he's cool, versus annoying as I've seen other characters in the role of 'village idiot' play. And he's useful, so two points there.
Kiba, cool, aloof. "Mysterious past that we have yet to see" I saw coming, though. Again, the predictability factor of the show.
I am so hoping that doctor is a wolf, though I doubt it. But I'd like her a lot if she were.
Don't care for this so called flower angle. Why? Let's just say I see things coming, and I'm not speaking as a yaoi fan, either. Femmes in peril, or those that need saving just irk me. Now if she does something useful, I'll change my mind.
One word for the carrion scene, ew.
As long as the human factor and human reference is kept to a minimum, it shows great promise. I'm for traveling series (Saiyuki, anyone?) so I'm more interested in this journey than them ever finding this so alleged flower and paradise.
So now I do reccomend WR, it's just got an abysmally slow start. I'm used to series taking two eps to get the plot moving, tops.
But, it's good for a sudden case of early morning insomnia...
::goes back to bed, as it's too freaking early on the west coast::
